Boomerang Project

About us

The Boomerang Project team – Study on the Impact of the Unequal Sharing of Unpaid Work (Domestic and Care Work) – is composed by higher education professors and researchers from different subject areas. Coordinated by Prof. Estefânia Silva, the project is promoted by the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences (ISCSP), of the University of Lisbon, as part of the Gender Conciliation and Equality Program, financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area – EEA Grants.

Biography

PhD in Social Psychology, Assistant Professor at University of Maia and integrated researcher of the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa). She is a recognized Specialist by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG). Coordinated the Specialization Course for Professionals in the area of Domestic Violence – Intervention with Immigrant Victims, in the scope of E-Gender. She has collaborated in several national and international research, prevention, and training projects and is the author of several communications in scientific meetings and publications in the areas of gender, migrations, gender violence, and conciliation between personal, family, and professional life.

Cláudia Casimiro

Biography

Assistant Professor at ISCSP-ULisboa and researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa). She has a degree in Anthropology, a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, specializing in Families, and a PhD in Social Sciences, specializing in General Sociology. She has published and researched on families, gender, conjugal violence and ICT. She is co-coordinator of the Families and Life Course Thematic Section of the Portuguese Sociological Association.

Cristina P. Vieira

Biography

PhD in Sociology and professor in UAb (Aberta University, in Portugal), at the Social Sciences and Management Department. She is a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (CIEG – Center integrated in ISCSP-UL) and at the Center of Global Studies – Anthropocene, Sustainability and Development (CEG – Center integrated in UAb) and also co-coordinator at the Sexuality and Gender Thematic Section (ST SG), from the Portuguese Association of Sociology. She has research on Sexuality, Gender, Health and Well-Being, with emphasis on the themes of youth sexuality and body; masculinity and the relationships models and logics; equality and gender violence. In parallel, she has been reflecting on Digital and Network Education.

Janete Borges

Biography

Assistant Professor at University of Maia (ISMAI), Guest Assistant Professor at Escola Superior de Saúde do Politécnico do Porto (ESS-PPorto) and Researcher at the Human Development and Psychology Unit (UNIDEP-ISMAI). Graduated in Mathematics Applied to Technology, Master in Statistics and PhD in Interdisciplinary Sciences – Applied Mathematics from the University of Porto. She has participated in research projects in several areas, the most recent ones focusing on domestic violence, gender violence, discrimination and social diversity.l.

Joana Topa

Researcher

Biography

Assistant Professor at the University of Maia and Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa). Author of the book “Maternal and Child Health Care for Immigrants in the Greater Porto Region: Paths, Discourses and Practices”, financed by the ACM, she has a vast academic background within migration studies. She is currently part of the COST Network Women on the Move, wich is funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology. Her research interests focus on migration, gender, gender violence, intersectionality and social inequalities.

Paulo Costa

Biography

Has a degree in Law, a post-graduate degree in Political and International Science, a Master’s in Political Science, and a PhD in Political Science. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Management at Universidade Aberta, where he has been teaching Law and Political Science since 2004. He is a researcher at CFE – Center of Functional Ecology (Coimbra University) and a collaborating researcher at CEMRI (Aberta University). His research and interests focus on citizenship, social cohesion, migrations, and environment His research and interests focus on citizenship, social cohesion, migration, and the environment.

Sofia Neves

Biography

Associate Professor at University of Maia, researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa) and President of the Plano i Association. She has a degree in Psychology and a PhD in Social Psychology. Her research field is gender violence, having published several scientific articles, book chapters and books on the subject. She has been coordinating several national and international projects. She is, since 2013, recognized as an expert by the European Institute for Gender Equality.
